Winter flying North QLD

Hi all its 30 degrees and today is a rare day of no wind. Its on all the time up here in Cairns , check Seabreeze.com north qld and see the constant green arrows from the south east.
The site we fly at, The Rex lookout is a ridge lift site with launch only 170 feet above sea level and a hill of around 800 feet behind it. Its a pretty ordinary flying site but providing youve got a higher performance glider the flying opens up to some pretty exciting possibilities.
The general rule is once youve got 1600 feet above the Rex you can then go on glide to the "Bowl". The bowl is arond 1900 feet high and you can get ap to 2800 feet off it. With 2500 feet you can glide to four mile beach at Port Douglass (around 30km) or if the Bowl aint working you can go into the "Washing machine" Which as the name suggests can get pretty wild, From there you can hop to the Cassowary range and fly to Mosman or even the banks of the Daintree river as Joe (long term local) has done in the past.
The flying on these such occasions is coastal and thermic, Its very challenging. Landing at Port Douglass is a hoot as you land amongst the Kitesurfers and hope for the best!
It was so cold the other day that i had to put on a T shirt. The local pilots are very freindly and all stick together. an open invitation is extended to all Newcastle crew wishing to come up for a winter visit and fly , There is a few spare gliders laying around.
