Newcastle South Leagues Club, Merewether.
I have added a custom filter to the site so that any email address which is included in a post will automatically be obfuscated.
"What does obfuscated mean?" I hear you ask.
Obfuscation is the process of taking some text and making it unrecognisable, whilst still allowing it to work in it's intended way.
"What a way to waste your time Dawson! Why weren't you out flying instead of doing that?" you may well ponder.
When an email address is included in a post it becomes possible, likely even, for Spam engines which spend 24/7 crawling around the internet looking for email address to collect them and add them to their lists. By obfuscating the email address, the spam engines have a harder time of picking it up and adding it to their lists. It makes it safer for you to put your or someone else's email address in a post. Oh, and I'm not out flying because it's night-time. But I will go upstairs for dinner in a moment.
"Oh, I see" your mind may well be saying to you in the way it does when you've lost interest in something.
As you've now lost interest, I'll show you what it looks like.
If you enter your email address as "dawson@bmhgc.org.au" into a post, it will be transformed into this:
<script lang='text/javascript'>document.write('<a href="mailto:d
awson@bmhgc.org
.au" title="No-Spam email link tag.">dawson@b
mhgc.org.au</a>')</script>
but rendered as a link like this:
As a bonus, I allowed you to link by name instead of by email. Just add the name in parenthesis after the email address like this: bilbo.baggins@theshire.com(Bilbo Baggins) and it will create a link like this: .
Dawson
Thanks Dawson
Perhaps now I'll get a little less spam.
