New VHF radios

Hey everyone.
At the meeting this week we discussed at length the need to buy and carry new VHF radios in the future, and recently some of the more astute/entrepreneurial gliding dealers around the traps are putting out new package deals to meet this requirement.

Is there anyone in the NHGC that has connections into our prefered brand of radio's company, that could negotiate a special rate for a bulk purchase? If it turns out that we all end up having to buy an additional radio, we are all going to need one at roughly the same time, aren't we? If there was a way we could let the club benefit financially, and save some individual coin along the way, I reckon it would be worth the effort.

If we had an idea of numbers then we could approach different outlets to tender perhaps.
Anyone know if there are base units for VHF suitable for car mounting?

Send Renno an email. He works for Icom, and should have some ideas. He has also published a circuit for selective transmission from one of the two radios you will be carrying.

Those of us who use VHF can tell you it is a S@!Thouse system for what we need. The AM radios have a sound quality that takes you right back to the 40s and a ground base performance unmatched by anything this side of a two bob plastic CB set you'd buy at GoLo. We will still need our UHF systems into the forseeable future.
