Signup to the club comp

Hi guys,

The Club Comp manual has now been published and is available for download.

As there's a teams element to the comp, we need to have all entries prior to the meeting on 28th July 2010 so that we can get our pilot list and pick the teams. So if we want the team event to really work we need all entries asap.

Remember also that we'll be dropping rounds, so don't let the fact that family or work commitments are likely to see you unable to attend some rounds stop you from entering. More details of how this works are in the comp manual.

As Simon mentioned in the email he send out this morning, we'll be demonstrating how to download tracklogs from GPSs at the June meeting (tomorrow night) so if you're not sure how to do so, come along, and bring your gps if you want to practice doing it yourself.

Don't forget your GPS cable

Also bring your cable.

GPS advice, please

Not going to download anything from my archaic GPS. I think it's still using Sputnik as one of it's main satellites. Time for an upgrade.....

My online research has led me to think I should get a Garmin GPSMAP 76CSX. Anyone disagree???? Anything else I should be considering?
Anyone got a second hand one for sale?
Wish I could make the meeting, but working.
Thanks!

Vic, whatever you get, just

Vic, whatever you get, just make sure you put the batteries in the right way around. You don't want your gps to tell you that goal is 10km North East and send you off South West!

One unit

Vic,

I take it that you have a vario but if it does not owe you too much or you can sell it I would go for a single unit that has vario and gps in it. Having a sep, GPS unit with maps may be handy if you land out but as far as in-flight goes I have my hands full just following the compass let alone trying to figure out what street I'm over. And a single unit is easier to mount on your HG than two and one less thing to charge or loose. Take a look at the Flytech 6030 http://www.flytec.com/Products/Variometers/6030.htm . Curt Warren and Godfrey sell them.

Having said all that if your budget is not around $1000 then the Garmin GPSMAP 76CSX is excellent. It has USB which makes for faster downloads and it is 3D which means it records altitude and this is becoming mandatory at comps now.

Regards,
Splint.

Thanks

Thanks for the info mate. Agreed that one unit would be easier, but since there's no option for maps currently on the flytec I'm thinking of going with two. I have seen the utility of passing the street I've landed near instead of the Lat/Long (worked well just the other day at Nellies after Dawson reversed the batteries in my vario). I get a lot of smiling and nodding when I try to explain Lat/Long to the wife...
Anyone else see any good reason I shouldn't get the GPSMAP 76CSX???
Thanks!
