Newcastle South Leagues Club, Merewether.
We're starting this meeting at 7:...
Gents,
I've received a few airspace / NOTAM questions from the central coast guys. Thought I'd repeat the answers here in case anyone's interested..........
Ant,
From a practical side, I don't think you will achieve much by calling Willy tower. Known HG/PG sites are marked on aviation maps which SHOULD give fast movers the info. Your call to tower will probably not filter back to us anyway.
Reference restricted airspace, HG/PG are NEVER allowed to fly in active restricted airspace - it's illegal.
Reference 'danger' airspace, HG/PG are always allowed to fly there. It is 'danger' airspace to give you a heads up that fast movers are operating in there in an extremely busy (task saturated) environment. You fly there at your own risk, knowing that the fast movers have extremely limited time available to look for you. Basically, it's not real smart.
John,
Here's how to get the info for Lake St Clair. Go to http://www.airservicesaustralia.com.au/brief/
You will have to first register for a user name and password.
-Click on "Area Briefing"
-Click on "20" on the map.
-Aircraft ID: just enter "1" then submit
-Use your browser's "Find" function to search for "R583B"
(Restricted area R583B is over Lake St Clair)
-Here's what you will see if it's active:
R583B ACT
SFC TO 10000FT AMSL
FROM 05 192300 TO 05 201200
-Decipher 05 192300:
05 19 means May 19th
2300 Zulu time. Add 10 hours to get local (0900 on 20 May)
So it tells us that it is active from 0900 on 20 May to 2200 on 20 May in local time.
Good Luck!
-Vic

Registering with Airservices
Hi Vic,
I tried a couple of years ago to register with airservices to get access, and spoke with someone there who told me I should put HangGldier as my registration number or something, I did so, but was still not able to get access ( I didn't try real hard )
Does anyone here know how a Hang Glider pilot can register? i.e., have you ever actually done it? if not, I'll try to jump through the hoops again, so I can document the path we need to follow.
Dawson
Scratch that
Never mind, I just tried it again. The form is easier now. I just used "HGFA Pilot No: xxxx" with xxxx being my hgfa number and the registration went through within a few minutes!
