Dalby Day 5

Finally after 4 days of wind and low cloud bases we get a task . . .

It was Groundhog Day at the hanger today as we waited for the briefing with the wind buffeting the the hanger and the low clouds moving quickly across the sky. At least the windsock had a kink in it. The directors asked us to come back at 2pm when it was looking like we might be able to get a task in. Most filled in time in town drinking coffee or checking the weather on the internet at the library.

By 1:30pm Adam was really keen to get in the air. I walked back to the airport from the pub and when I got there Ebbs and Adam were setting up and everyone else seemed to follow suit even though a task had not been called. Blaino towed Adam up and it was decided that a task to Chinchilla was feasible.

Many pilots were pessimistic about the chance of finding any lift. Cloudbase was only 4500 and there was thick high cloud above that. Never the less there were a few pilots that made it out of the 15km start circle. Most returned to the hanger, myself included.

Camo and I just did the scoring and the unofficial places are;

  1. Johhny Durand Jr
  2. Conrad Loten
  3. Trent Brown

It's now 9:30pm and it's raining in the main street. If it's still raining in the morning I think we will probably head off and Join Pauly in Manilla for the rodeo weekend.
