XC Round 2/3 Oct 2010

02/10/2010
03/10/2010
Australia/Sydney

Round 3 is up for this coming weekend, but there's been much disucssion about the viability of having a comp round on a long weekend.

A bunch of the pilots in the comp will be at Manilla, but many others are unable to drive that far for a single day, and are unable to get away for the weekend.

The options we're left with are:

  • a limited comp round where few pilots will be able to attend
  • no round this month
  • an "OLC" round - you fly where you are and we score that flight

After discussing this idea with enough of the competition organisers, we've decided to give the OLC task a go.

The way it works is this.

You fly wherever you are: Manilla, Denman, Bombala Street or Quito. Take your gps with you to record the flight. Your single best scoring flight from Saturday 2nd October or Sunday 3rd October will counted in the comp round, so if you are going to fly more than once, you might want to save your tracklog as an .igc file after each day's flying so that you don't overwrite it when your GPS runs out of memory.

Next week you sign up to an OLC - preferrably http://xcaustralia.org/modules.php?name=leonardo&season=2008 - as it's Australian, and we'll be able to compare the flights on one website. Upload your best flight from the weekend, if you're not sure which one will socre best, upload them all, then send me an email with a link to your best scoring flight.

A 100km triangle will score higher than a 100km Out and return, which will score higher than a 100km straight downwind task.

You need to upload your flight to the OLC within 14 days to be able to be scored by it, so don't delay.

Scott, Nigel, Don B, Vic & some others are likely to be at Manilla
I believe that Alby & Ricky are heading to Denman to be dopes on a rope. I'll be joining them.
Allan McWindMillan is at Manilla, and is considering trying to get to Denman for Saturday.

If everyone could comment here on where they are planning on flying we can try to help ensure that everyone who wants to fly has a chance at doing so.

WEATHER FOR WEEKEND 2/3 Oct

Summary: Due to flying activities in several parts of the common flying areas and because of the distance between sites I don't have the time to give a detail forecast to cover all spots. But generally across all areas there will be grey bottom Cu cloud and higher level Alto stratus, cumulus and nimbus along with possible showers, possible sunshine between the cloud, 5knt average wind from North through to East. good flying can be expected in most inland areas when conditions permit. Coastal on Saturday will be NE with probable showers.

So where ever you go, please observe the weather there and fly according to the conditions and fly safe and enjoy your weekend.

A man with imagination has wings: he can fly.

Good enough for me

That'll do, I'm going to go to Yarrawa. I plan to head off from my West Lake Macquarie home straight after breakfast. Would love to pool up with others if possible, give me a call and we can arrange something.
