XC adventures this year, my photos

Every cloud has a silver lining
I have been sick, feeling drained and the silver lining is that I have had the time to catch up with little things like organising my photo albums. It is enthusing and I hope that summer will hurry along. Dawson has done well at getting Coppermine up and running again, well deserving of the title Awesome Dawson.

Read more for photos and stories of Wollombi, Mt Koskiusco, Manilla and our 260km flight along the Murray River to Swan Hill.

Email Munging

I have added a custom filter to the site so that any email address which is included in a post will automatically be obfuscated.

"What does obfuscated mean?" I hear you ask.
Obfuscation is the process of taking some text and making it unrecognisable, whilst still allowing it to work in it's intended way.

"What a way to waste your time Dawson! Why weren't you out flying instead of doing that?" you may well ponder.

Airspace + How to get NOTAMS for Glennies

Gents,
I've received a few airspace / NOTAM questions from the central coast guys. Thought I'd repeat the answers here in case anyone's interested..........

Ant,
From a practical side, I don't think you will achieve much by calling Willy tower. Known HG/PG sites are marked on aviation maps which SHOULD give fast movers the info. Your call to tower will probably not filter back to us anyway.
Reference restricted airspace, HG/PG are NEVER allowed to fly in active restricted airspace - it's illegal.

Our group laundry session

A big thank you to Ricky & Airborne for letting us hang from their rafters, and to Scott for giving a presentation on chutes, Stuie for winding us up, and to everyone who came.

Watch this video on Youtube

By practicing deploying, hopefully we'll all be more prepared should we ever actually need to deploy, and some of us learned that we need to get new deployment bags, or that we've got to push rather than pull.

Thanks again for coming along.

When NOT to fly Glennies

Gents,
For your info - the restricted airspace over Glennies (surface to 10,000) will be active Monday to Friday for the next two weeks. That's:
17-21 May
24-28 May

I have to pay for all my hang gliding equipment somehow, so I fly Hornets as a gig on the side. We'll be blasting through the Glennies area for the next two weeks. I had a laugh at work the other day when I saw that one of our 'holding' waypoints for the upcoming exercise is Lake St. Clair. Nope, can't be changed.

sunset flight at Dudley

Ian and I have been out to dudley for a lovely late afternoon flight. Stinging it.

Stingfest 2010 Movie

At this year's Stingfest there were many happy pilots. Some were stingfesting and some were just festering but only one would be STINKING at the end of the day. I guess you all know who that is by now but watch the movie anyway.

Adam's back in the air

Had a lovely fly on Sunday 18/04/2010. Took off at Strezzie and as my feet were leaving the ground I realized I had forgotten my camera. So after a quick buzz I landed at the monument and walked back to TO. Just as I was driving back to the bottom to park the car Kiero, Matt H, Rod and Russell all arrived. Mark was already up and the day was looking good.

Thar be clouds

JOD has just arrived in Tumut, Conrad headded off on Sunday and the rumour mill is rife with the chatterings of carloads of pilots headding off tomorrow morning. I'll be headding off on Thursday.

This is what JOD was greeted with on his arrival today:
